5.1. Methodological overview

The procedure is based on the continued work of the student for attending lectures, participating in classes and accomplishment of both individual and group activities that promote understanding and knowledge listed in paragraph 5.2.

The case studies that offer good practice, the participatory and reflective classes on major phenomena that hinder sustainability in different tourist areas and expert assistance talks will help achieve the learning objectives. 

5.2. Learning tasks

The program that the student is offered to help them achieve the expected results will include the following activities:

Theoretical classes (30 hours) in which basic theoretical and practical aspects are necessary for an understanding of this matter shall apply to encourage active participation and independent work of students.

The theoretical program is divided into the following topics:

  • Topic 1 Sustainability. A conceptual and current introduction to its global vision.
  • Topic 2 The model of sustainable tourism development. Problems, Principles and Policies. From sustainable tourism destination to sustainable tourism business. 
  • Topic 3 Techniques and instruments for sustainable tourism development. Main certifications and labels and environmental education.
  • Topic 4 Case Studies: Good practices, projects and innovative and creative sustainable tourism initiatives.

These lectures are interspersed with practical classes (20 hours). Explained in evaluation section. 

In turn are scheduled 6 hours of tutoring for a student or a working group, which shall be used to answer questions or present the progress on the matter. These will be included in the tutoring schedule to be indicated at the beginning of the course.

Schedule of sessions and presentation of work

The theoretical and practical program will be taught during class, but can be modified along the course to perform some activity designed to take place outside the classroom. 

Scheduling of classroom activities and student communication will take place on the Moodle platform.
